Ayeyarwaddy Division. The detailed activities we achieved were education of 4 Clean (food, water, hand and latrine cleans), entertainment, distribution of hygiene kits, posters, brouchers, vinyls, CDs. Our edutainment group organized by one supervisor, some talented actors, actresses and health educators. We plan to make not less than two effective entertainment programs which can make the villagers happy and understand the 4 Cleans messages clearly. According to our experience of the previous projects, we had fulfilled the needs of 4 Cleans knowledge support in 32 villages in Maw Gyun Township through our edutainment program. In our edutainment program, water, sanitation and hygiene messages (4 Cleans) were included in dramas, songs and every performance. Not only we performances have been highly
appreciated, but also villagers got basic hygiene awareness. Distribution of 4 Cleans related IEC materials, visual aids can improve understanding. During health education, we used some hygiene related vinyls, brouchers and posters with celebrities. Our health educators also distribute IEC materials such as pamphlets, posters and hygiene kits and even health knowledge. It will be more effective because our actors and actresses also distribute these IEC materials. After our greatly performance, we also made Q&A session to the audiences by asking how much they’ve already got messages concern with 4 Cleans and how much they got knowledge for 4 Cleans from our performances. Most of them can answer all 4 Cleans questions and we also provide award for their right answers.
By the above activities, we got the outputs that villagers got more hygiene awareness clearly, change their behaviour to become healthy, can prevent rainy season potential water borne and water related diseases while enjoying our entertainment programme. This project will cover around 4000 households in 32 villages in Maw Gyun Township. But we faced some difficulties when we went some villages those who are waiting for others supporting materials and programe especially for their physical needs, they didn’t warmly welcome to our group firstly. Due to our edutainment staffs greatly effort, we can persuade and motivate them with 4 Cleans messages successfully. However, this project can also help the beneficiaries to get awareness on interrelated between environment and human survival through their hygiene behaviour.
